-259-My Chinese New YearClass 302 Emily%u3000%u3000Chinese New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among Asian cultures. On New Year%u2019s Eve, many people return to their family homes for a big reunion that includes a huge meal to celebrate the coming of the New Year. During Chinese New Year, we eat lots of delicious food, such as fish, Nian Gao ( %u5e74%u7cd5 ), oranges, dumplings, and pineapples. For the fish, we mustn%u2019t finish all of it. Nian Gao is a sticky rice cake. The words %u201cNian Gao%u201d are similar to %u201cgetting higher every year%u201d in English. In Chinese, oranges sound similar to the word for luck. For the dumplings, some people would place a coin in one dumpling, and the person who found it would have a lucky year. The pineapples, symbolize wealth. The pronunciation for pineapple in Taiwanese is %u201cOng Lai ( %u65fa %u4f86 )%u201d. This means good luck! Among all this food, hot pot is my favorite. I can put the food. I like the pot that made by myself. It's fun and after eating that, I feel warm in the cold weather.%u3000%u3000Not only had I have lots of delicious food, but also I went to many places to take on a trip. I went to the Shih-Lin night market. I played shooting and fishing games. It was interesting and because of the games, I won a big bubble tea doll. I also ate chicken egg cake. I love it! That's my favorite snack at the market.%u3000%u3000On February 5th, Lantern Festival, my aunt brought my cousin and me to Taipei 101 to see elegant lanterns. I saw rabbits, Sunflowers, and horse lanterns. My aunt took lots of pictures.%u3000%u3000I wish the Chinese New Year can be longer, so I can eat as many things as I can and go to as many places to have fun. The most important thing is I can get up late and don%u2019t have homework every day.
